5 Spy Movies That Will Make You Want To Be A Real Life Spy!

5 Spy Movies That Will Make You Want To Be A Real Life Spy!

When you think of a spy, almost everyone will say James Bond. Or maybe even Ethan Hunt from the Mission Impossible series and perhaps Johnny English! With the thrills of traveling to foreign lands and facing off against nefarious bad guys, to meeting slick femme fatales and doing crazy over the top action stunts, there are many reasons why these movies motivate people to become a real life spy! Here are five of our recommendations for spy movies and why these movies will motivate you to become a spy!

1- James Bond Spy Movie Series

Of course we can’t start a list of the best spy movies to motivate you without bringing up James Bond! With a film career spanning over 60 years, 25 movies and 6 actors playing the titular character, there’s no better place to start than with the textbook example of a spy himself! James Bond follows the character Bond, a spy for the British Intelligence agency, MI6, who is tasked with saving the world from evil organizations and villains. How can the sight of the original spy not motivate you to become one yourself? Cool, collected and having the expertise, knowledge and gadgets to travel to exotic locations, fighting off against bad guys in their evil lairs and getting the pretty girls! Let’s not forget to also being the poster boy for the Aston Martin car brand too! Watching these films will make you wish you were as cool and famous as Bond! All 25 Bond movies are ready to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

2- Mission Impossible Film Series

Next is the Mission Impossible series, played by Tom Cruise! Did you know that Mission Impossible was originally based off a TV show that aired in the 1960s and 1980s? The movies follow the agent Ethan Hunt, a spy working for the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). See where the movie gets its name from? He must save the world and prevent it’s destruction from sinister organizations and villains. If being suave and cool isn’t your thing, then worry not! Ethan Hunt is known for getting his hands dirty and even his actor Tom Cruise is known for doing his own stunts. This film series will motivate you to be an active spy with it’s jaw dropping locations and over the top stunt work! Who doesn’t want to be a spy that does insane stunts like hanging off a plane door that’s taking off, doing a HALO jump off a plane or even climbing the Burj Khalifa tower! Better start exercising if you want the strength to tackle all these stunts as a spy. All 5 of the MI movies are available to stream on Netflix so it’s time to binge.

3- Johnny English Spy Movie Series

Here’s a spy franchise that’s more on the funny side! The Johnny English movies parody the James Bond films, and it follows Johnny English, a spy working for the agency MI7, who is tasked with saving the world from sinister villains and evil organizations. Expect the usual chase scenes and fancy gadgets, broken up with Rowan Atkinson’s amazing comedic skills and dialogue! Nothing less from the actor who brought you Mr Bean! If you thought that being a spy is all about being serious and hardworking, then this film franchise will have you thinking twice! Johnny English is bad at his job, always messing up and sometimes causes the bad guys to get away, yet he always gets the job done! This franchise will motivate you as it shows if a bad agent like English can get the job done, then so can you! All you need is the drive and motivation to be a good agent! Only Johnny English Reborn is available to stream on Netflix, whereas the rest may require a bit of searching via Blu-Ray DVDs or on Astro!

4- XXX Spy Movie Series

Here’s a spy franchise movie that takes place in America. The XXX franchise follows two different agents, Xander Cage played by Vin Diesel and Darius Stone, played by Ice Cube who are recruited by Gibbons, played by Samuel Jackson, into the NSA agency. XXX is focused on action set pieces and over the top stunt work involving cars, boats and even a train rather than usual spy work! Similar to the Mission Impossible franchise, this movie will motivate you to become an active and energetic spy as you do insane stunt work to stop the bad guys! Get ready as a spy to outrun the bad guys on a motorcycle, or chasing after the villains on a speeding train to even working together with a group of rebels to assault the White House! The XXX film series is a bit tricky to find, as some streaming websites like Hotstar make it available only in certain locations. You may need to rely on buying Blu-Ray DVDs to watch the films or on Astro.

5- Kingsman Spy Movie Series

We have a newcomer to the list! The Kingsman film franchise pays homage to old spy movies of the past, being more action comedy rather than straightforward spy films. The films are based off a comic book series, and follow the story of Gary “Eggsy” Unwin, a down on his luck young man who was arrested for trying to steal a car. He is then recruited into the secret organization, Kingsman, by Harry Hart to become a professional agent. An agent gets recruited by an intelligence agency to stop an eccentric villain / secret organization from taking over the world. Best to stick with what you know of course! Similar to James Bond, Kingsman will motivate you to be a spy as Eggsy is suave, meticulous and cunning in his work as a spy. Even when the missions go wrong, he always keeps his cool and expertise in solving the missions! Did we mention that he is also well dressed when fighting the bad guys? Who doesn’t want to be a sharply dressed and cool spy? The Kingsman film franchise is available to stream on Disney Hotstar!

These are our top picks for awesome spy films you should check out as these movies will definitely motivate you to be a real life spy! Of course, we do not recommend that you break in and sneak around high surveillance places as that would be dangerous.. Instead, if you want to experience like a spy, now you can be a spy by visiting Spy Game at The Curve to fulfil your dream of being a real life spy! In our Spy Game experience, you will roleplay as a spy and break into a secure location to accomplish a mission such as stealing a document or rescuing an agent. What is Spy Game?

What Is Spy Game & How Do You Play It?

Breakout has been known to be the creators of (one of) the best escape game experiences in Malaysia! Of course, Breakout isn’t known for keeping quiet after releasing new theme rooms and outlets. Now, we’re adding a brand new immersive experience with the addition of Spy Game! But what is a Spy Game you ask? Is it the same as Escape Game? Well, don’t worry, as this helpful guide will give you everything you need to know about SPY Game!

What is SPY GAME?

In Spy Game, you must use your wits and skills to break into a secured location, sneak away from the patrolling guards and to accomplish the mission that has been given to you! Spy Game requires 2 to 6 players and you only have 30 minutes to accomplish the mission. Things won’t be easy as the location will be patrolled by real life guards or NPCs (non-playable characters) who will ensure that your mission doesn’t go smoothly. Thus, you must use your creativity to sneak, hide and disguise yourself in order to stealthily avoid the guards and win the game. The Spy Game missions range from stealing a secret, to planting a bomb to rescuing your friends!

How Do You Play Spy Game?

The goal of Spy Game is to make sure that the NPCs (non – playable characters) or guards don’t catch you as you do your mission. So be creative when playing the game! Remember to Sneak, Hide & Disguise when playing Spy Game!

1. Sneak!

Sneak around quietly and don’t trigger any alarms cause you’ll alert the guards!

2. Hide!

If the alarm is triggered, hide under the tables, inside large cabinets or any spots you can hide!

3. Disguise!

If you can’t find a hiding spot, it’s time to disguise yourself! There will be a costume available in the room that spies can wear and wearing it means you can creatively bluff the guards!

4. Distract

Spies can also use props in the rooms to distract the attention of the guards away from you so that you can easily sneak past them!

To finish your mission, you must also overcome numerous challenges that will distract you from the mission. Physical obstacles such as rope bridges and climbing nets will challenge your physical skills while some puzzles and tasks will also challenge your brain and quick timing skills. You must overcome these challenges while also keeping track of time and the guard! However, always remember that the goal is to complete the mission, so if you find a way to finish the game that bypasses the obstacles and puzzles, go right ahead!

Is Spy Game the Same Like Escape Game?

Not actually! In Escape Game, you must solve puzzles by their correct order to escape from the room in time. In Spy Game, completing the mission without getting caught by the patrolling guards is the main goal rather than solving the puzzles (although there are some puzzles, but minimum).

Your Spy Missions At The Curve

We have many different spy game missions for all, be it a beginner who wants to learn how to be a spy to even a veteran who has mastered the art of sneaking! At Spy Game The Curve, you’ll be tasked to complete missions based around a mysterious cult named LUDDITE that has decided to abandon technology. LUDDITE was founded by a man named Harold in the wake of the Y2K fear, with the group abandoning all technology and any followers caught using technology will be sentenced to death! The missions range from rescuing your captured friends, to finding the truth about LUDDITE to destroying their base!

Spy Game is the next big thing to drop in Malaysia and you shouldn’t miss this chance to try out a new and never before seen concept! Drop on by The Curve so that you can begin your first steps into being a world famous spy!

Introducing Breakout’s Hardest Escape Rooms in KL

This list is specially catered for avid Breakout goers, You must have visited breakout rooms multiple times by now. Ever wondered while you’re playing about the hardest rooms we have in our outlets, we’re sure you have an idea in your mind when we say Breakout Hardest rooms. Yes! We will be listing the 2 hardest rooms based on statistics in both our outlets at NU Sentral and Avenue K.When it comes to the hardest room everyone will have different choices in their mind but to settle this long standing debate on which room is the hardest in both outlets. We here at Breakout will supply you with the deets. The most difficult room up to date in Avenue K is Cerebrum and in NU Sentral is Perpetual. These rooms aren’t the only hard ones, they have their competitors too like Mr Oswald’s Greatest Show in Avenue K and The Testament of Tesla in NU Sentral.

1- Cerebrum

Cerebrum - Hardest room in Avenue K

This room takes the cake when it comes to the hardest room in Avenue K, many have tried to come and conquer this room but a lot more have failed, why do they fail you ask? Well this room’s puzzle is designed with very intricate details that emphasises communication for it to be solved. Players will be split into two groups and will be required to communicate as the puzzles are related even when they are in different rooms. Cerebrum has a mixture of maths, logic and sheer luck when it comes to the variables of solving its puzzles accompanied by minor physical actions such as crawling and climbing. When the room is first briefed to you by the GM it will seem easy when we say the room is really bright but do not be fooled as it will turn your brains inside out unless you have a solid team with really good communication skills.

2- Perpetual

Perpetual - Hardest room in NU Sentral

If complex storylines are your kind of thing then perpetual in NU Sentral will have you drooling at how complex it can get, even from the storyline aspect straight down to the puzzle design as well. you’ll find strange signs and notes all over the rooms that initially won’t mean anything to you but can you piece them together to figure out what’s going on? Why does a simple home robbery feel so weird? You will feel that the vibe is off. The puzzles themselves are a fun mix of logic games and technological challenges and it’s the most physically challenging room in breakout with the only entry point being a one-storey tall ladder which requires you to climb it so it is quite some physical action we got for you. There is a situation in which you would need to have some basic knowledge of electrical wiring for you to solve a certain puzzle, it is doable without any knowledge but you would need luck for that as well.

There you have it, the top two hardest rooms in both Breakout outlets. How do you think you will fair up to the challenge? Of each of these rooms? Maybe when you actually try it you would find it easier than is explained. Well.. if you’d like to find out then give us a visit here or book your sessions online for Avenue K and NU Sentral. If you are interested on other themes, find out more here.

5 CNY Taboos You Must Not Do

5 CNY Taboos You Must Not Do (2022)

Chinese New Year is often recognised as the Chinese community’s largest and most important cultural celebration. As a result, various customs and traditions have developed around the holiday, with many ancient restrictions in force. There are additional taboos that have been observed in addition to these norms, with superstitious individuals taking great care not to break them. Some of these taboos are well-known, while others are less well-known and practised in only a few households today. In the run-up to Chinese New Year, here’s a list of five CNY taboos to keep in mind that you might or might not know about.

1- Avoid taking medicine

Avoid taking medicines on CNY

This may not be the most relevant taboo during these times, but there is a belief that taking medicines or going to the hospital in the days leading up to Chinese New Year is unwise. Why is this the case? According to the taboo, if someone takes medicine on the first day of the new year, they will be sick for the rest of the year. People with ailments used to smash their medicine pots after the arrival of the New Year was signaled by bell-ringing. They felt that by doing so, they would be able to rid themselves of their ailments in the coming year. Even Though at Breakout we have Materia Medica which is related to Chinese medicine there won’t be any medicine consumed here so you won’t be breaking any taboos.

2- Avoid borrowing or lending money

Borrow money is a major CNY taboos

Borrowing and lending money during the Lunar New Year is frowned upon, so remember that no money should be lent on New Year’s Day, and all obligations should be paid by New Year’s Eve. If you owe someone money, wait until after the New Year to pursue the situation. Anyone who disobeys this taboo is said to be cursed for the remainder of the year. Well you won’t be lending anything in Perpetual, instead you will be stealing.. Hmm we think there isn’t any taboo on stealing.. Is there?

3- Avoid breaking things

Avoid breaking things | CNY Taboos

Breaking is a symbol of insufficiency and bad luck. During the Spring Festival, breaking a bowl, plate, glass, vase, or mirror is thought to bring bad luck, financial loss, or family split so be sure to adhere to Breakout rules and not break anything in the rooms. You don’t want to receive a year worth of bad luck now, right? When anything is inadvertently shattered, people customarily wrap the shards in red paper and exclaim “Sui sui ping’an,” which means “all year safe and sound.” In Mandarin, 碎 (sui, meaning ‘broken’) and 岁 (sui, meaning ‘year’) sound the same.

4- Saying bad words and cursing

men cursing during CNY

Swearing, uttering phrases with negative connotations  regarding death, poverty, or ghosts and badmouthing are all things to avoid on Chinese New Year since they will bring you bad luck for the rest of the year. For example, the term “si” for “4” is also considered a negative word because it sounds similar to the word “death” in Chinese so please do not curse when you are frustrated trying to escape our rooms unless you want to be best friends with bad luck.

5- Do not clean or sweep

sweeping floor is major cny taboo

A day of cleaning is held before the Lunar Festival. That’s how you get rid of bad luck. It becomes a taboo during the real celebration, However. The act of sweeping insinuates that you are sweeping away good fortune, cleaning or tossing out garbage may seem similar too. If you notice Breakout to be a bit messy in the first few days of CNY then just understand that we don’t want to break any taboos but if you must, start at the far edge of the room and work your way inwards. Garbage should be bagged and thrown away after the fifth day.

We hope you took away something from this local knowledge about things not to do on Chinese New Year 2022. Even if you are not Chinese descent and don’t have to observe these Chinese traditions, it’s good to know what color to wear or how to carry yourself. This is how you can blend in with Chinese locals when joining Chinese New Year festivities! Also playing Breakout, does not break anything or break any CNY taboo.

mobile escape game vs real life escape game vs virtual escape game

Mobile vs Real Life vs Virtual Escape Game. Which one do you prefer?

Which is better? We have listed 3 types of escape games: Real life escape game is the tried and true in person escape room gaming that we all love, virtual game offers an escape room gaming experience that can be set up from a remote location and played from the comfort of your home, while mobile escape game is simpler switch phone based game that can be played anytime, anywhere.

1- Mobile Escape Game

There are many wonderful mobile escape games. Many Games out there can provide you with stunning visuals such as The House of Da Vinci, which is a real selling point for the aesthetically minded. Mobile escape games also allow one the flexibility to game with friends easily. All you have to do is add each other in the game and just like that, it’s “game time” . The portability of a mobile phone means that a world of fun is literally at your fingertips, and can easily offer a fun escape during your commute. The top trending mobile games currently are Adventure Escape series that sucks players into a well crafted and original storyline. In ‘All That Remains: Part 1’ the game includes a camera function that you will use to take pictures of clues. This added interactivity has not been seen in other mobile games and bridges the virtual and the real worlds. In The Escapists 1 and 2, you play the role of a prisoner tasked with collecting items to help you eventually escape, plus other challenges. As immersive as mobile games are, the downside is that you will not truly feel immersed in the game. While mobile escape games are great to pass the time, you are still ultimately looking at your phone screen and playing by touch screen. It will not come close to the exhilaration of escaping a room as one would experience in person, not to mention that if your battery runs out, your time is essentially up.

2- Real Life Escape Games

Real life escape games allow you to physically touch the walls and handle clues and puzzles in a faithfully reproduced 3D space. Physical escape rooms are much more realistic, with the set like rooms immersing you in a setting that matches the theme. The hands-on feeling of solving puzzles with a baseline requirement of dexterity and agility to move around the room will give players a more embodied and memorable experience generally. By engaging all 5 senses, you may find yourself experiencing an extra kick or adrenaline rush while you’re completing the puzzles. The rooms you are placed in tend to be realistically recreated, for example you may find yourself face to face with a life sized Marionette on a stage alongside yourself, as if you are a character in a story that is unfolding in real time at Breakout. The downside to it is the number of players that can join in on the game is limited as well since the rooms vary in how many people they can accommodate. If you’re a big group of 30 people, perhaps physical escape games aren’t for you unless you don’t mind dividing your group into smaller fractions of people. Theoretically, it is not impossible for anyone to create a stadium sized escape room to accommodate that many people like Squid Game but generally, escape rooms tend to be limited to a few persons due to spatial constraints.

3- Virtual Escape Game

A virtual escape game is an escape room game that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. It is normally the go to choice of companies that want a fun time at an affordable price while working remotely. Instead of traveling to the escape room’s physical site, the escape room will come to you – virtually. The online games at Breakout are generally conducted in a standard duration of between 90 to 120 minutes. With conferencing tools like Zoom and Google Meet used across the board these days, communicating remotely enables virtual meetups instead of going with the usual in-person escape room experience. Breakout’s “Finding Chris” is one such interactive virtual game, a rescue mission that puts you in an immersive situation so you can feel like heroes in a movie as the game is conducted in real time and you can interact with live actors as well. An added bonus is that the virtual escape game called “The Intern” by Breakout can accommodate up to 50+ people in one session and is very popular among the corporate sectors for their online team building game.

In the newer virtual escape games, you can also communicate with your team through web chat. Having your group mates in front of you, on camera brings an added dimension of interactivity that translates to even more fun. For virtual games you will need a strong internet connection. If you don’t, you may get left behind and end up a burden on your teammates who will have lost a player.

There are many ways to experience an escape game, whether online or in person. There are pros and cons to all of them but having a variety of options opens up the experience to literally every person in the world no matter where you are and how far away you are from the closest human being. For sure, in person, physical games should be your choice as they are, in our opinion, the most fun. For those who are more cautious of covid cases and worried of close contact cases however, virtual escape games are a great option, whether you are home quarantined or if you just feel safer staying home. Virtual escape games are borderless too, meaning if you have colleagues/ friends/ family overseas, you can reconnect with them over 2 hours of interactive and immersive gameplay. Now that you have a better idea of the types of escape rooms available, go ahead and book your session here!

5 Guaranteed Anxiety Triggers for Every Game Master

5 Guaranteed Anxiety Triggers for Every Escape Rooms’ Game Master

Going to an escape room is fun but a lot goes on behind the scenes just so you can have the best experience ever. Game Masters (GMs) are your trusty guides who feed you clues, explain the rules and understand each and every theme room. We all love them, we all need them. They may come across calm, cool and collected but beneath their professional exterior, there are some situations that happen behind the scenes that can make their job pretty stressful. Below are 5 guaranteed anxiety triggers for every game master:

1- Prop Malfunction

prop malfunction

Every time a session finishes it’s the game master’s duty to reset the room to its original condition for the next set of players. Every prop is carefully checked to ensure that the rooms are in prime condition for a seamless and smooth gameplay experience. However, this doesn’t mean props will not malfunction during games, causing minor hiccups. Prop malfunctions are a Game Masters nightmare. Do not worry though, if they happen, Breakout will intervene to fix it for you as well as compensate you for lost time.

2- Player Injuries

player injuries

In Breakout and other in person escape games, you could potentially injure yourself, especially if you get too excited and start forgetting the GMs instructions. We normally advise all players not to run as the space in which you have to move around is very limited. But if you insist on running and jumping as though there is a ton of space when there isn’t, you will definitely be on the watchful radar of the GM who pays very close attention to ensure everyone’s safety. Don’t be the cause of a GM heart attack please!

3- Setup Errors

setup errors

This could be considered the biggest no no for a game master. GMs have been trained to set up the rooms to perfection but as we are all just human, errors still do occur even though we try our best to make sure you have a hitchless escape room experience. Perhaps we forgot to push a lock properly shut, causing you guys to breeze past a puzzle without doing anything at all. Great for you but a failure for us, and something we really don’t want to happen. If there are any setup errors – and thankfully, they are really rare – we will compensate you in different ways to make sure you leave happy.

4- Prop Thefts

prop thefts

There is a reason why we ask you to check your pockets before leaving. In our years of running an escape room, someone will inevitably and accidentally – at least we hope it is accidental – bring a prop home. We are all human, it happens. But say if you carelessly slipped something like a small key into your pocket and forgot about it, it will cause a mad scramble behind the scenes to find a replacement in time for the next group of players. We’ve had instances in the past where people return props days and even weeks after, and many stolen props don’t even make it back! If you really want a Breakout memento, ask the receptionist. We may have something more suitable like stickers or pins or a quirky photograph for you to take home with you.

5- Late Customers

late customers

This is perhaps our number one pet peeve. There is a reason why our game sessions are slotted according to time. Breakout runs on a very tight schedule and we are normally fully booked for back to back slots. If a customer is late, we don’t want to cancel your booking but at the same time, if we allow you to proceed, it may cause a ripple effect and end up disrupting the following sessions, making for some very unhappy customers left in your tardy wake. It is always a judgment call on our part and can be quite stressful for the Game Master so please do us all a favour – MAKE SURE YOU’RE ON TIME OR 5 MINS EARLY!

Now that you know what our game masters biggest stressors are, please don’t use it against us even as a prank! At Breakout, we pride ourselves in our professionalism and our awesome, immersive gameplay. So now that you know the Do’s and Dont’s of Breakout, what are you waiting for? Book your session here! We look forward to seeing you at one of our outlets soon!

Are You Really That Stupid for Escape Games?

Are You Really That Stupid For Escape Games?

Do you guys think you’re really that dumb? We at Breakout always notice players saying they won’t escape even before they start the game. Breakout has 12 rooms altogether, takkan la you cannot break out of just one room. We looked into to it, to find why you guys think and feel stupid while playing the escape room to try to prove that you are actually are not stupid.

1- You Doubt Yourself

You doubt yourself in escape games

Why do you guys doubt yourself? Doubt is the reason everytime you want to go play an escape room, you will tell the game master before hand that you’re stupid. Not yet try also say this la that la already, have some confidence people, without DOUBT confirm lah that your performance will be tip top in the room. You might even feel like you’re Albert Einstein .

2- You’re Just Lazy

You are just lazy in escape games

If you’re lazy then we surrender lah because only you can un-lazy yourself. Imagine you are inside the room with your friends and everyone trying damn hard to solve the puzzle but actually you’re the smartest one in the group. Only because you felt lazy to even try that you didn’t manage to break out? You just need to be a little more rajin and you guys would’ve escaped.

3- Not A Math God

You are not a math god in escape games

Ahh the classic, I’m not good at maths and puzzles equal maths solutions so i wont be able to solve it…As a game master I agree that maths is involved in the rooms but its only basic maths even kids in tadika also can answer, you cannot answer meh! If you can answer what is 2+2 then for sure you can handle these escape rooms!

4- You’re not good in expressing yourself

You are not good in expressing yourself

You’re super smart and have like a billion ideas in your mind that could help your team achieve victory but just because you don’t know how to express yourself or form proper sentences, you just keep quiet and not say anything. Why give up when you could say something and be the savior for your team. It could be the lifeline that your team needs so you need to be more expressive.

Now that you know why you’ve been feeling like you’re not smart enough and know how to beat that feeling. Also we still encourage you to come even though you are not in any of these 4 categories ( actually dumb ) because at least you get to have fun realising how dumb you are..Buckle up and come book your sessions here. Breakout is the best place for beginners to test your smartness! Of course bringing the right friends do make a difference too, read the 5 types of players article we recently wrote through our observation through these years. Make sure you choose the right people to play with.

Below is a compilation of the new kinds of escape room players that could potentially RUIN YOUR FRIENDSHIP. Read part 1 here.

1- The Veteran

Old man salute

This is the person who probably invited you to Breakout to begin with. They have played every room, studied the cheat codes to puzzles on YouTube, and constantly boast about knowing where all the outlets are and which rooms are the best. These bigshot friends pride themselves in being the only one in the group to have ever stepped foot into an escape room. But experience is good, right? Well, not always. Veterans also tend to be the know-it -alls and will dominate the game, bulldozing over the decisions and contributions of the more quiet, shy types. These players will make you believe that what they are doing is always right! Watch out for their giant egos for it may just get the better of your team if you’re not careful.

2- The Strategist

Image of men thinking with his brain with puzzle pieces

Strategists see themselves as exceptionally smart and will spend not an insignificant amount of time before hand devising a plan of action. They will always make sure the group is huddled up and thinking of ways to outsmart the game before the game is even explained. They want to win no matter the cost even if it means sacrificing a teammate using the Assassin’s ability. If you’re wondering what that is? Well, at Breakout each player gets superpowers! Head on over to this link here to learn about Breakout’s gameplay! To quote Thanos “You couldn’t live with your failure so where did that lead you? Back to me”. This is the mindset strategists have when it comes to winning, which is great! But if you’re the sort to think outside the box and prefer to respond to situations as they arise, strategists and their stick to the game plan personality could end up rubbing you the wrong way.

3- The Decor

Men paint in gold not moving

The décor is a fancy name for the person in the group that does nothing but stands there like a statue. You will be hot on your toes doing the puzzles and out of the corner of your eye you will see ‘ the décor ‘ looking blur, staring at you struggling with the puzzle and does nothing to step in and help. I suppose they do contribute body heat but honestly, our escape rooms are not that cold. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to RKO (google it) this person or just leave them in the escape room as a decoration once the game ends.

4- The Siren

Ghost in white dress

The siren is a very particular person who shrieks in escape rooms although it has been specified that there is nothing scream worthy and normally these people dictate the mood of the groups. Sirens are easily excitable and will exclaim with delight or terror at every slight twist and turn in the game. While they can uplift the mood in the room, their antics can also be a great distraction for tasks that require some mental focus. A single flicker or the sight of a moving shadow can cause a reaction from a siren to shriek as if they were being exorcised like Emily Rose herself! That said, sirens are perhaps the kind of people you would WANT to bring to a haunted house like HauntU. Link here).

5- The Joker

Joker head shot

Last but not least, we have the joker. Joker will literally make a joke out of everything and anything, from the game master to the props and even to their fellow teammates. You may be trying to pay attention to the instructions or read a clue when the joker will inevitably say something funny that throws off your focus. Don’t get us wrong, jokers make great friends and are like balls of energy and laughter, which is why you are hanging out with them to begin with. But they can be double edge swords in an escape room when you are trying your best to make it out of the room! Perhaps the worst combination would be having both a strategist and joker type of players in the same team. That would be a true test of friendship!

If any of these escape room players are in your friend group be prepared and don’t let their personality ruin your friendship with a failed escape room challenge! That is if you’re the competitive type. If you’re down for some fun and games and bonding sessions, Breakout escape rooms promise you a lively experience. 5 Common Workplace Issues that can be addressed by Team Building Activity

Top 5 Common Workplace Issues that can be Addressed by our Team Building Activity

Working just isn’t easy, whether at the office or from home. Worse so when you have to organize a team building activity. Mention team building and your responses can vary from puppy like excitement to sheer indifference. Of course, not all team building activities are equal, as some can bring an overall improvement and some don’t prove to be effective.

We can guarantee that Breakout definitely brings improvement and we’re not saying this cause we’ve created the game, ahem. We know a thing or two about testing teamwork and cooperation in games that are challenging and engaging for players. If you’re looking for an activity to foster cooperation, look no further than our physical team building and virtual team building activities!

1.Lack of attention to detail of the team building activity

Firstly, our game masters will explain in detail about the physical team building through a verbal briefing. Most people gloss over this, wanting to dive head first. I’m sure you can guess what happens next… The game master’s instructions are crucial in playing the game correctly and failure to pay attention can cause the players to not escape! This highlights the ability to understand, internalize and remember the rules and limitations of the game which is relevant to workplace productivity. We often get over enthusiastic and focus on achieving the goals without understanding the details first.

2.Error 404 in Teamwork & Communication

Communication and teamwork are key in project delivery. For our physical or virtual team building, players are split into smaller teams of 4 to 6 members and will have to work together to solve the puzzles. Of course, differences in opinions can arise and the team must work together to explain and justify their choices. One team member can submit the answer without consulting the team, and of course, this won’t bode well for the team, especially if the answer is wrong! Remember, the objective is to escape, not who can provide the puzzle answer the fastest!

3.Bad Time Management & Task Delegation during the activity

Whether through the physical team building or the online team building, the puzzles must be solved within the time limit. There’s now a pressure that tests the ability of a team to not only be efficient but to also communicate well and importantly, delegate tasks correctly. Often, most team members work on the same task, causing a waste of resources, as successful teams must be able to divide the work according to each other’s strengths and to keep watch of time, making sure everyone is on track to deliver the tasks.

4.Putting Blame on Each Other

I’m sure nobody likes workplace politics. But oftentimes, mistakes happen with no one taking responsibility, leading to finger pointing, workplace gossip or defensive attitudes, none of which is optimal for workplace productivity and morale. In our physical and virtual team building activity, the players must decide on the answer to solve the puzzle and also the task delegation to escape, but if you’re indecisive and uncommunicative, it can lead to blame games with no one taking responsibility. Sound familiar? That’s why our physical and virtual team building activity can help bring awareness to your team for responsibility taking and keeping up team morale under difficult situations.

5.Taking all the Credit for Your Team’s Success

Take all the credit in success | Team Building Activity

After escaping or beating the game, only 1 team is declared a winner, and that’s the group that displays the best teamwork and communication. That said, we’ve seen instances where an individual, mainly the team lead, takes all the credit for the victory. Right, leadership is important, but leaders do not achieve victory without additional support. A good leader credits the entire team, acknowledging each other’s contribution, making the office more motivated!

Over 500 plus companies (5000 plus employees) have chosen Breakout for their corporate team building activity and it is in these areas that our team building activity has proven the most fruitful. Our team building activity could very well provide insight to help you build an effective team. Teamwork is essential to any company so build cooperation and increase productivity and work efficiency with our team building activity today.
