Is Online Escape Room Fun?

Is Online Escape Room Fun?

All arcades and game attraction places are closed due to Movement Control Order (MCO) and even escape room like Breakout have to temporarily shut down to curb the covid-19 pandemic. You have tried dalgona coffee, being a home chef, online classes but online mobile games are just not your thing. What about playing a life-like rescue mission via ZOOM? Yes, you might have ZOOM fatigue and assume online escape room is not as fun as the physical game, but this online game does not stop there. Breakout brought Escape Room online which requires players to be played virtually with a theme called ‘Finding Chris’, a rescue missio.

So, let’s us convince you.

 Gather 2 – 5 players

How to play online escape game- gather 2-5 players image

You can call up your friends and family from the Board Game Club on Saturday’s night. Gather up not more than 5 players or if you have more than 5 players, you will have to split into a different group. But, hey make it a game competition and compete with your friends and find out who is smarter?

All you need is 2 devices and a stable internet connection.

Well how can you call it a virtual game if you don’t have your device with you? To have a smooth and great online experience, we recommend you to prepare your laptop or desktop (preferred) and your mobile phone or tablet/ipad. Make sure your internet connection is good and stable. If you’re using wifi, make sure it is stable because you don’t want to lose connectivity when you’re in the middle of saving ‘someone’.

Pay attention to briefing and the storyline

How to play online escape game- Pay attention during briefing

In any escape room games, it is always important for you to know what to expect and prepare beforehand. Make sure you listen to the briefing carefully and immerse yourself into the game storyline that will be told. Just a heads up, you are on a role of a group of HACKERS for a search and rescue mission to FIND CHRIS. So imagine yourself rescuing someone (an actor) who is being abducted.

Interact with Actor and solve puzzles are part of your mission.

You have come to the most interesting part of the game! Yes, you will be interacting with the LIVE actor through a shared screen mimicking a real time CCTV camera. He’s being kidnapped for real! Well not that real like in the latest movie installment of Escape Room 2. It’s a mimic of a real-life scenario. The actor is part of the whole scenario, interacting with the actor, meaning you can literally communicate and work together with him/her to accomplish the mission.

How to WIN this escape room mission?

How to play online escape game- how to win img

We post the weekly leaderboard on our Breakout’s Social Media. The higher score you get, the chance to be at the top of the leaderboard is higher. To win the game and get ranked on our leaderboard, make sure you and the team:

  1. solve all the game’s puzzles correctly and only ask for a hint when needed.
  2. Communicate among yourself and with the actor.
  3. Think outside the box. Use google, social media and other external resources to help you.
  4. Delegate the task and not everyone doing the same thing.

Now you get the idea of playing our online escape room. Does it sounds fun to you? So wait no more, imaging now you are part of the hackers in those mystery movies on Netflix!

6 predictable gift ideas you should stop looking for

6 PREDICTABLE GIFT IDEAS YOU SHOULD STOP LOOKING FOR IN 2020

When it comes to gift giving ideas, we seem to be short on imagination, falling back on the same tried and tested items that have somehow established themselves in our minds as gifts. No more of that, we say. Here at Breakout, we like to do things a bit differently. Being in the business of creating memories, we genuinely take joy at forcing our customers to have a good time at all costs. Thinking outside the box is also another trait we encourage as a part of our self imposed civic duty. So to all like minded ilk reading this, please do silently judge yourself harshly the next time you reach for an unoriginal, slapdash birthday gift for a loved one.

And here is a friendly reminder of all the gift ideas you should not have in mind or even be buying but somehow can’t help yourself.

1. Fast Fashion Apparel and Accessories.

gift ideas | Fashion

As if we need more. The world is drowning in fast fashion throwaways, and the official statistic of the recipient liking a gifted fashion item is, by our very scientific anecdotal estimations, at a solid 3%. Save the earth, save your wallet and say no more.

2. Electronic Gadgets that Don’t Last 6 Months

6 PREDICTABLE GIFT IDEAS | Gadgets

We understand. Quirky gifts are fun and novel. That pink Hello Kitty USB electric fan is cute as heck, but in our experience, novelty wears off. Fast. Perhaps a better gift in this category might be a brand new smartphone. However, if you’re in a position to be gifting smartphones, well, then you don’t really need our advice on how to spend your money wisely.

3. Artsy, Trendy, and Kind-of-useless Stationary.

6 PREDICTABLE GIFT IDEAS | Stationary

No, having 5 moleskine journals does not automatically make you cool or smart. Stationary is also a popular gift idea for school going children and teens. Ironic, since perhaps the last thing they would want as a gift is something that reminds them of school.

4. Taking Someone Out to Dinner because You Forgot to Go Gift Shopping.

6 PREDICTABLE GIFT IDEAS | Dinner Plan

A meal coupled with some supermarket chocolates and flowers is a perfectly appropriate celebratory gift to many. Really, we know it’s because you’ve been busy all week and haven’t bothered to think up something special for your loved one. While it can be romantic and create fond memories, it is also the most predictable option, and here at Breakout, we are severely allergic to cliches.

5. Gift Cards: The not so thoughtful, thoughtful present.

GIFT IDEAS | Gift Cards

If a bestie gifts you a gift card, beware. She/he might actually be a secret frenemy. ‘I thought I’d let you choose your present’, delivered with a smile actually means ‘I couldn’t be bothered finding you something truly original to mark our special bond’. As a rule of thumb, this present is only acceptable as gifts from parents or coworkers/bosses.

6. Souvenirs as Gift Idea? We can’t Believe it’s Still a Thing Either.

6 PREDICTABLE GIFT IDEAS | Souvenir

It’s 2020 and sadly souvenir shops have not gone extinct yet. This gift may be a valid present in rare circumstances – like if the souvenir is coveted to the point of obsession, or if you’re 80 years old and above and want to give a memory to a loved one. Beyond that, souvenirs are, and we know you’d agree, kinda lame.

We are trying to tell you there are better gift ideas out there should you be looking to celebrate a special occasion. And here comes the plug – We now have THE ENIGMA available for purchase!

Make You Next Gift Unforgettable

The Enigma Gift Box

The Enigma | Unforgettable Gift | Personalised Puzzle

Our latest offering brings you a personalised gift box that is unique, affordable, comes with puzzles and lots of fun. Every gift box is personalised for the receiver and comes with a video message from the sender. Intrigued? You should be.

5 types of escape room game players at breakout

5 Types of Escape Room Players that we’ve seen at Breakout

5 types of escape room players at breakout

What else can you do during your free time or holiday besides lepak-ing in shopping malls, go movies and goyang kaki in coffee shops? For those who are familiar with escape room, many would agree that this is the next best thing to do without having to drive out of town.

Of course, you will need at least 1 partner-in-crime (or more!) to get the game started and this will be the best time to know how your friends and families behave. So, we have rounded up 5 types of escape room players and their behavior that you might encounter during the gameplay.

The Paranoid

The most fearful escape gamer of all and will always get paranoid about everything in the game room. Suspecting jump scares everywhere, but they will be the one giving you jump scares every time they screamed for nothing.

The Self-Elected Leader

They will always take up the lead and give you instructions on what to do. Might be helpful at times when you are lost, but when the plan is not working, you just want them to STFU.

The Noisy One

You will never run out of topic with this person. From giving commands, to asking all sorts of questions, and barging into other people’s discussion, they just love to talk! Maybe they will hook up with the game master even before the game starts but all you want from them during the game is actually to FOCUS!

The Angry One

Everything seems cool, but once they start getting into the game, you’ll wish you didn’t ajak them in the first place! And the complaint starts in 3.. 2.. 1..

The Instagrammer

They will be the one recording every single thing on Insta story, Snapchat, and checking in from the moment you step into the shop until they realised that NO PHONE IS ALLOWED during the game. They just can’t live without their phone and this is their worst nightmare.

So, do you have friends that belongs to any of these 5 types?

Private: Private: 5 Tips to Beat Any Breakout Escape Room

5 Tips to Beat Any Breakout Room

You have tried Breakout Escape Room at Avenue K or NU Sentral but didn’t beat any of them. Here we are giving you 5 tips to beat Breakout we believe that are useful.

Have sufficient players to play escape room

Breakout Puzzle Solving Nu Sentral

Escape rooms are best attempted with a group of people. While you and your one genius friend may just well beat the clock, generally speaking, larger groups have a higher chance of success through sheer combined brainpower. As Breakout is designed to give each player a character with ‘superpowers’, having more people in your group means more ‘superpowers’ you can use. Some of our puzzles are very challenging and your combined ‘superpowers’ can give you a leg up to beat the room. We recommend 6 people as the ideal number of players. More than 6 and the room could be a tad crowded while any fewer and you may not have sufficient characters to take full advantage of the ‘superpowers’ and solve the game in time.

Pick the right characters

Picking the right characters can help you tremendously during the game. While it goes without saying that certain characters are indispensable, pairing characters strategically and giving some thought to your game strategy beforehand could help you beat the clock. For example, it will not make sense to choose The Assassin or The Healer if you’re in a smaller group of 4. On the other hand, The Lockmaster and Lightbringer will be essential characters to have regardless of the size of the group. If you’re in doubt which characters to choose, our Game Masters will be more than happy to help you with picking the right characters for your team.

Use the Oracle’s superpower

Breakout | Oracle

The Oracle is a role essential to the game. The character of the Oracle is shown a sequence of images of the room before the game starts, which corresponds to the sequence of puzzles. The Oracle will then recall these images throughout the game to help the team know where to begin and which puzzle comes next. Knowing where to look for the next clue or puzzle will save you a lot of time. This is a very important character to have on your team if you are to maximize your chances of finishing the game within the given 45 minutes.

Give everyone a chance to play

Breakout Escape Experience

It is easy to get over-excited in an escape room with the clock ticking away. However, the most successful teams are those who know how to cooperate with one another. Some puzzles have a physical aspect to them and will require more than one person to complete, and this means teamwork, communication and cooperation. Sharing tasks with your teammates and giving everyone the opportunity to have a go at the puzzles will give you a higher chance of success. Ultimately, 5 brains are better than 1.

Don’t overlook The Assassin

Breakout Assasins

It goes without saying that knowing when to use your ‘superpowers’ could spell the difference between success and failure. However, there are some characters that for whatever reason do not seem to be popular with players. If you have sufficient members in a group, The Assassin, one of the least popular characters, is actually very useful. The Assassin gets to ‘kill’ in exchange for a clue and this can be especially helpful if you’re truly stuck on a puzzle. But besides that, The Assassin can also keep unruly teammates in line. While not the intended purpose of the role, it does technically give you the ability to put that one belligerent teammate in the naughty corner for 8 minutes. When good old fashioned tact and persuasion fails, you can always count on The Assassin.

These 5 tips could spell the difference between success and failure at our Breakout Escape Rooms. Our escape rooms are character based, which brings an important dimension to the game that will assist you in making it out on time. If you’re thinking of trying out one of our escape rooms, we recommend pre-booking a session on our website before hand. Good luck with your next attempt and we hope these tips will help you emerge victorious.
